Ebony Smith, BSN, RN is a proud native Detroiter and registered nurse with over a decade of experience in various healthcare settings which include ambulatory care, community nursing, med-surg with a focus on nephrology, maternal and child health and education in multiple areas. She holds a bachelor’s of science in nursing from Grambling State University. Ebony currently works in a busy, primary care clinic in the city of Detroit where she serves as the interim director and nurse preceptor. She has been fortunate to work with all ages from birth to elderly while serving diverse populations over the course of her career. Ebony is proficient in motivational interviewing and she has a special gift for relating to patients on a personal level in spite of age and background differences. She takes pride offering compassionate care and serves as an advocate for her clients and the community as it relates to using cannabis as alternative medicine.
Ebony is a member of the Cannabis Nurses Network and the American Cannabis Nurses Association. She has offered insight from a healthcare professional’s perspective in regard to cannabis use for various community organizations throughout the Metro Detroit area. She holds a certificate as a Medical Cannabis Consultant and through self-learning and countless experiences of direct patient care, she has emerged as a leader in her field and regularly champions cannabis use in her daily practice. To date, Ebony currently serves on the City of Detroit’s work group for adult use (recreational) marijuana implementation and related social equity considerations. In addition, she is co-founder of Midwest CannaNurses™, a Detroit based consulting company that specializes in cannabis education and advocacy.
